Castletroy Slí na Sláinte - 6.8km

Limerick County Sports Partnership Launch Castletroy Slí Na Sláinte

Slí na Sláinte stands for “path to health”. Developed by the Irish Heart Foundation, it’s the outgoing way to make walking far more enjoyable. Already, it’s capturing the attention of the young and old, not only in Ireland but in Europe and other parts of the World too! And no wonder, because it’s a fun healthy way for the average adult to accumulate the recommended 30 min of physical activity on most or preferably all days of the week.

Marked by bright colourful signposts which are not numbered and are situated at 1km intervals, you’ll find Slí na Sláinte walking routes all over Ireland.

Simply follow the km signs, set your pace to suit your enjoyment and you’ll quickly feel better and get fitter. You will also experience a great sense of achievement.

The Castletroy Slí na Sláinte is a 6.8km route which starts at the junction of Milford Road and the Dublin Road. To follow the route, continue along the Dublin road for over 2km passing through the Kilmurray roundabout before turning left at the Annacotty roundabout and onto Plassey Park Road. Turn left at the roundabout and continue along Plassey Park Road for over 2km, passing the University of Limerick on the right. Turn left at the Groody roundabout and continue back to the starting point on the Dublin road.

Suitable as a daytime route only and can be walked in both directions.

Fit4Life

Fit4Life resumes for 7 weeks on Wednesday 22nd August 2007 @ 7.30pm
University Arena Sports Bar

You've probably heard all the advice by now; be healthy, eat lots of fruit and veg and make sure you stay active - regularly. However this can be a problem with one of the major contributing factors to not getting recommended amount of exercise being a lack of time. Nowadays with our busy schedules people feel they don’t have time, but think about the benefits only a couple of hours one evening a week would make. Both through social interaction and health benefits such as stress reduction, lower blood pressure, strengthening of muscles and bones and improved sleeping patterns.

Fit4Life resumes for 7 weeks every Wednesday from August 22nd and is aiming for just this type of audience. Based around a 2.5 mile route which can be done at your own pace and incorporating spot prizes for different categories, such as personal bests (not for winning or losing!) it could be just what you’re looking for.

Maintaining good health can become part of your daily diary throughout life. Maybe you haven't given your health too much thought? By putting in a little effort now and making small changes, healthy living will become second nature to you and will help you to look and feel better each day.

The Fit4Life programme takes place every Wednesday at 7:30pm in the University arena (warm up at 7:15pm). All are welcome. For more information please contact Limerick City Sports Partnership on 061 46 85 42 or info@limerickcitysports.ie .

Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon

Limerick Athletic Club are organising the Irish Examiner Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon on Sunday 7th October at the University of Limerick at 2p.m. This will be the 10th running of this event. Last year we had 3,145 competitors and this year we are expecting up to 4,000 to take part, making it the single biggest sporting event in Limerick. While we have a lot of serious runners, most of the participants walk, some pushing buggies and wheelchairs and some men in drag, making it a fun day for everybody. Most of the people taking part raise much needed money for charities / groups from all over Ireland. Last year over €600,000 was raised. This event brings people from all over Ireland to Limerick and so helps raise the profile of Limerick City and County.
