Limerick’s First Go for Life Festival: A Huge Success!

The National Programme for Sport and Physical Activity for Older People

Limerick’s Older People Get Active

Monday 14th of May 2007, County Limerick Local Sports Partnership in association with Limerick Health Promotion HSE and the Limerick City Sports Partnerships hosted Limerick’s First Go for Life Festival in Limerick University Arena. Over 100 older people from all over Limerick came together to celebrate their achievements in promoting physical activity within their own communities and active retirement groups.

Over the past four years 83 older adults have trained as physical activity leaders (PAL’s) the majority of which now roll out physical activity by way of walking, bowling, dance etc in their local active retirement group or community motions area. The Festival created the opportunity for Active Retirement Groups representatives and PAL’s to come together, share experiences and celebrate their success.

For many of these older adults keeping active is about having fun, socialising, staying flexible and maintaining a level of fitness. County Limerick Local Sports Partnership is happy to support any older persons/groups who are interested in becoming more physically active
